So, if you're running anything that's considered a little too close to retirement age, then perhaps it's time to make that all-important upgrade, if only to stay in the loop moving forward. On July 21, EA published an update to The Sims 4's policy regarding modding and content creation. Also, future Stuff Packs and DLC can only be accessed via a 64-bit system. GameSpot may get a commission from retail offers. A solid reason for upgrading your system, of course, is to be able to reap the benefits that come with The Sims 4's online features. So, is it worth upgrading your system just to be able to play The Sims 4? Well, yes. Even still, it's a slight shock to the system-especially for off-peak gamers with older tech. Unfortunately, Electronic Arts hasn't shed light on the reasoning behind the sudden choice to banish the Legacy Edition. It makes sense, though, what with the game turning nine years old next year, and 32-bit systems becoming a little outdated for most PC gamers. And in this case, that'd include games like The Sims 4: Legacy Edition. That said, for those who are still running the game on anything older than a 2015 model may find that 32-bit is the only thing it's capable of running. The good news is, most PCs and Macs these days tend to come preloaded with a 64-bit system. Mac users, on the other hand, will have to ensure their operating system is running with the latest version, which is macOS 10.11. Electronic Arts' watered-down version of The Sims 4, aptly named The Sims 4: Legacy Edition, will be losing its support on December 12, 2022.Īfter just three years on the chopping block, Electronic Arts will be shutting down support for The Sims 4: Legacy Edition, meaning players that still have 32-bit systems will have to either upgrade to a 64-bit, or face losing all of their progress.
